Chartered Clinical Psychologist
Dr Katie Splevins (Chartered Clinical Psychologist, BSc (Hons), DClinPsy, CPsychol)
I am a mum, human rights journalist and a clinical psychologist. I have experience working with young people, teenagers and adults. I have also worked extensively overseas with people from all cultures and walks of life. My passions are many, not least increasing the resilience of those working overseas in demanding and dangerous situations; working with parents to understand attachment theory and how it can be used to enhance their relationship with their child; and running mindfulness-based cognitive therapy groups to help people cope with the stresses of life.
Alongside this I work with people of all ages to help them address common experiences including;
•addictive behaviours
•adjustment to significant life changes (including chronic illnesses and living with chronic pain, re-location, having a baby)
•anxiety disorders (obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, panic attacks etc.)
•bereavement and loss
•behavioural difficulties
•depression and low mood
•eating disorders
•low self-esteem
•personal and family relationship problems
•post-traumatic stress disorder
•stress
Believe it or not these are common difficulties - although sharing them with another person for the first time can feel daunting. It can also be difficult to believe there are any solutions.
This is where a psychologist can help.
I am trained to use a range of treatment approaches which I tailor to fit your specific needs. I also follow the guidelines set out by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) and up-to-date research. Some of the therapies I draw from include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), cognitive analytic therapy (CAT), compassionate mind therapy (CMT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT). If these are not therapies you are familiar with please feel free to contact me for more information.
What to Expect
At our first meeting we will spend about 50 minutes talking about your concerns. You are free to share only what you feel comfortable with. This will give me a chance to assess your specific needs to explain how I work, and for you to decide whether you want further sessions. We can then discuss how I can help and the number and frequency of any following sessions.
Everything we discuss is confidential and no information will be shared without your consent unless I feel you or someone else is at serious risk of harm.
Fees
Sessions are £70 for 50 minutes. Please ask about concessions.
