Dancing for Birth Teacher & Doula
Hannah Robertson -I have always loved to dance and spent most of my childhood with ballet shoes on and also learning folk dances. I had a long gap without dancing, most interests replaced with academic study (Film & Television Ba Hons) and having children. Thankfully, I have rediscovered dancing that nurtures self-esteem, and general happiness in keeping fit.
I became a doula in 2007 after the birth of my second child which was life changing (I had doula support with my second pregnancy) and so different to what I had experienced when unsupported with my first baby. I did a doula preparation course and joined Doula UK because I wanted to support other women to have empowering and fulfilling experiences of becoming Mothers. At this time I started a diploma with the University of Bedfordshire as an NCT antenatal teaching practitioner. I have gained wisdom from supporting so many different women and men through pregnancy, labour, birth and beyond which is some of the knowledge I will bring to the classes.
I started teaching evidence-based research childbirth preparation with the NCT in 2009 and after several study days with many pregnancy experts like Ina May Gaskin, Dr Sarah Buckley; I came across Dancing for Birth. This was a natural progression for me to use all my passions to support women to feel more confident in preparing for the birth of their baby. I love the unique aspect that dancing for birth classes are a way of bridging antenatal and postnatal education. When you bring your baby back to dance this fulfills the gap we have in the community of pregnant women and mothers sharing together.
