After my counselling training at the University of Cambridge Institute for Continuing Education I spent the next seven years working for mental health charity MIND, counselling clients who were experiencing a wide variety of problems including depression, bereavement, addiction, relationship issues and work related stress. Previously I worked as a voluntary counsellor for ADAS a service for clients with problems relating to drug, alcohol and other addictions. In 2008 I started my own private practice while I was living in Essex and now I have relocated to York and continue to work within my own practice. I work with both adult individuals and couples.
Counselling provides a safe and supportive environment in which I help you to talk through your thoughts and problems and reflect on past and present events. It gives you a confidential place to 'let off steam' and express your feelings. It encourages you to take an honest look at your current thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may be preventing you from moving forward. It helps you to find ways of changing these overwhelming emotions in a way that will take you to a safer and more secure place. It can often provide an environment to understand and learn about yourself so that you can take control of and responsibility for your life.
