Winojith Sanjeewa is a professional dancer, teacher, choreographer, and academic in Indian & Sri Lankan Classical dance styles. Having won the first prize at National School Dance competitions successively for over ten years, Sanjeewa became a member of the National Dance Troupe of Sri Lanka and performed extensively both locally and abroad. Having completed a B.A. degree with First class Honours, Sanjeewa entered the University academia as a lecturer in South Asian dance & drama and served two prestigious Universities in Sri Lanka.
Since training in Bharatanatyam at the Nupura School of Bharatanatyam, University of Bangalore, India, Sanjeewa has been teaching both the theoretical and practical components of the dance form for the past seven years. Sanjeewa’s Bharatanatyam students have received a 100% pass rate the Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapit examinations conducted by the University of Lucknow, India with most of them receiving Distinctions.
Having completed a Master’s degree at York St John University, Sanjeewa continues to work as a freelance instructor in Bharatanatyam & Bollywood dance styles in York, U.K. He is in the process of organising a South Asian dance show at York St John University in aid of Save the Children’s new campaign ‘No Child Born to Die.’
