What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a complete system of alternative medicine that treats physical and stress related illness. It is a truly holistic approach to health. Homeopathic medicines or remedies as they are often known, are chosen to fit all the characteristics of a patient's illness, so physical disorders are considered in relation to an individual's current stress levels too. In emotional and stress related illness a homeopath also looks at the whole physical health picture.

Homeopathy for all.....

Everyone, from babies to adults, including during pregnancy, can use homeopathy effectively.

It can treat a very wide range of physical, emotional and stress related illness, both acute and chronic, from coughs, colds, migraine, IBS, operation recovery, back-pain, high blood pressure, PMT and all hormonal disturbances to asthma, eczema, cancer support, depression and hyperactivity in children, to name a few.

Homeopathic medicines can be taken safely alongside prescribed drugs and will not interfere with their action. Many find that as their condition improves using homeopathy, they are able to safely reduce their conventional medication. Thereby avoiding the side effects that can accompany the long-term use of drugs. It is always recommended this be done in consultation with a GP.

How Homeopathy works.....

Homeopathy works on the principle of the law of similars or 'like cures like'. This means that a substance which can cause a disease can also relieve it. For example coffee is a stimulant that can cause temporary insomnia. When coffee (coffea) is used in potentised homeopathic doses it can relieve that same insomnia. Another example is chopping onions, which cause the eyes and nose to run. Onion or Allium Cepa as it is known in homeopathy, is one of the remedies that can be used to treat colds or hay fever with the same symptoms.

A Typical Homeopathic Consultation.....

The first consultation can take 1-2 hours, with follow-up consultations lasting between 20-40 minutes, for longer running conditions such as eczema.

Sometimes you may just have a cough or cold or acute backache or other short-term illness. Prescriptions for these kinds of problems can usually be dealt with more quickly and often a follow up is not required unless desired. Sometimes however, it can be beneficial to have some constitutional treatment to strengthen your health once again. Your homeopath will advise you on this.

When taking your case a homeopath needs to build up a full picture of your condition including your current symptoms and your past medical history. They may ask about many aspects of your life from your interests and sleep patterns to how you cope with stress. This is in order to build up as full a picture as possible from which to choose a homeopathic medicine for you that most closely matches your pattern of symptoms. A homeopath will treat both your symptoms and you as a whole; this is called constitutional treatment and will help to strengthen your general health after any acute symptoms have passed.
