Indian Head Massage - Champissage
This form of Ayurvedic massage has been used for centuries in India and was traditionally practised in families to encourage healthy hair growth and as a way of relieving the body of fatigue. Its Indian name is 'Champissage', from which the word shampoo has evolved. Ayurveda translates as 'science of life', and is the term used to encompass the various strands of the Indian medical system from medical science, herbal remedies, massage, yoga and meditation.
Indian Head Massage focuses on the upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face areas. It can be carried out over clothes without oils or, with the Client baring their shoulders using specifically selected oils. Ayurvedic oils that can be used in treatments are Amla, Bhringraj, Brahmi, Cocunut, Shikakai, Mustard, Neem, Pumpkin, and Sesame can provide relief from various complaints e.g. itchy scalp, poor hair growth, to overactive mind, and insomnia to name but a few, when they are applied to the scalp during the treatment.
