Plot Your Novel In A Morning
When: Saturday 8th September
Have you always wanted to write a novel, but don’t have a plot?
Do you have a kernel of an idea but don’t know how to turn it into your next novel?
Or do you just need some space and a lot of biscuits to work out what’s going on in your story?
If you live near York, we’ve got a workshop for you!
M’colleague Jane Lovering and I are running a half day workshop in York on the 8th of September. It’s especially handy for anyone who is going to the RNA York Tea later.
Why should you listen to us? Well, between us we’ve had 23 books published and Jane’s won awards (I’ve been shortlisted, but never won anything… always the bridesmaid…). We each write at least one book each year, so we’re pretty good at this book plotting malarkey. Plus, there will be biscuits. Real writers need biscuits.
Mostly, we’ll be working out your three act story structure and an outline. ‘But I’m not a planner’, you say. Aha! Well neither am I. It’s still useful to have an idea of where your story is going before you start. You’d be amazed how a bit of probing can help you line up the sequence of events and turn your vague idea into a tangible story. But if you have specific areas you need help with, let us know and we’ll try to cover that too.
Come along armed with your story idea and characters (no matter how vague and unformed) and let us help you turn them into a story with turning points and conflict and all that good stuff that makes a page-turning novel.
